Evolve or die…

I found the article below and thought “finally someone recognizes the truth…but they are still going to try to run their company the same way as they always have prolonging the major label’s death.”

Sony closing CD plant in face of digital music

Sony to close CD making plant in New Jersey

Sony will close one of its biggest CD making factories due to the growth and popularity of digital downloads as well as other economic influences. Based in Pitman, New Jersey, the plant has been operating for 50 years and first produced vinyl records. When its doors close on March 31, nearly 300 people will be out of work.

At full capacity, the half-a-million square foot warehouse could manufacture 18 million CDs every month. While vinyl record sales have increased from 2008 to 2009 by nearly 33 percent, CD sales have dropped by 18 percent during the same time period, at 110.3 million in 2009.

At the same time, record company revenues fell by 7.2 percent in 2009 while digital music format sales grew by 9.2 percent, to $4.3 billion. Digital is now important enough in the US that iTunes is the largest provider of music in the US, ahead of Walmart and online-only rivals such as Amazon MP3. Apple currently holds two thirds of digital sales.

Sony will now produce music CDs alongside the existing video DVD line in a plant in Terre Haute, Indiana. [via NetworkWorld]

Ways to make money…

Posted: January 12, 2011 in Good Thinking

I found this article (the hyperlink above) as I was just casually looking at articles stemming from Yahoo! and I thought it was definitely worth sharing.  The first part talks about something that is near and dear to me.  Kimberly Palmer, the author, suggests that you should start a brand.  As soon as I saw this I began to chuckle inside because this is something that I want to do full-time but Kim says that we should use these tools to supplement our income…at least initially or until the growth of that brand forces you to make a decision. I will definitely be using this advice.  Tell me what you think and if you would use the advice given.

My nephew Kid Swami…

This is a video that my 14yr old nephew made.  He is pretty serious about his craft already and I am excited to see where it leads him.  If anyone has any pointers or opportunities for him please let me know!!  He is a raw talent right now still carving out his own sound but he definitely is years beyond some major industry names already!

Christmas memories

Posted: December 25, 2010 in Uncategorized

The only way it feels like Christmas to me is if I hear the Temptations singing Christmas songs!  Ever since I was young this was the only way I remember Christmas.  Waking up to food smelling good, my mother sleep on the sofa guarding the gifts, and the Temptations playing!!  Fond memories!!  During my time in the Navy holidays would just blow by and I never really paid attention to them that much.  It just seemed like another day.  (getting older will do that to you too…lol)  But it wasn’t until I was having a conversation with my mother during my time overseas that I realized it was the Temptations that triggered all of my childhood memories of Christmas.  As she was talking to me on Christmas morning I heard the Temptations singing “Silent Night” in the background and I realized that it was truly Christmas.  Having the Temptations sing Christmas songs to me every year will be a tradition for me the rest of my life.

Radio is not dead…Shade 45

Below is a link to Eminem’s Sirius Satellite radio station Shade 45.  I have gotten a chance to listen to it and it is refreshing to hear hip hop in its truest form.  It is also a breath of fresh air to have true DJ’s back in the spotlight heavy and using radio to promote people but also having the freedom to give airplay to whomever they deem worthy. DJs like DJ DramaDJ Premiere, DJ Statik Selektah and more.  An all star cast of talent!! The interviews are entertaining and simply I just love to hear new music or underground music.   See down here in Nashville, TN it is tough to get a quality radio station that has a playlist that isn’t predictable after 30 minutes of listening.  I am just saying!!

This guy Leo Berman (R) of the Texas State House is ridiculous!  It is sad to see that when facts are in front of someone and it doesn’t go along with their own personal views then they develop a case of selective memory, or only reading what they want to so that it sticks to their story.  At one point in this interview he says that he has never seen Pres. Obama’s passport or travel records…then he says he had a passport in the early 90’s when he went to Pakistan during a time when American’s were not allowed in Pakistan?????  So has he seen his passport or not?  Ugh…then Anderson Cooper put it back in his face based on evidence that he actually went in 1981 (a decade earlier than accused) during a period when it was allowed.  I am truly concerned when a person who represents the people is so unwilling to listen to facts instead of half truths.  What is the deal with our leadership???  I am not knocking him for having his own views because that is American…I am knocking a representative of the American people not being willing to pay attention to the evidence.  That is a problem for me!!  You cannot LEAD based on your personal opinion in this capacity!!!  It just isn’t professional.  I am not angry just disappointed that we appoint leaders such as this.  i think I will begin to pay MUCH closer attention to politics and who is leading me than i have been.  I am not from Texas but I take the blame partially because I have not been doing my part to elect more compentent well rounded leadership!!  It won’t happen again though!

(Video quality is decent but I had to post this asap!)
